Caring for tulips in a vase

To enjoy them for a long time, keep them as cool as possible and out of the blazing sun. Tulips are most comfortable overnight in the coolest room in the house. Before putting them in the vase, cut the lower white part of the stem two to three centimetres straight with a sharp knife.

The leaves should not be in the water, so do not add too much water to the vase and remove the bottom leaves. Tulips absorb a lot of water, so top up in good time.

The popular tip of adding sugar to the water is more likely to do harm than good. Tulips and daffodils should not be put together in a vase, even though it looks good. Daffodils secrete a mucilage that causes tulips to wilt quickly.
